We Were Trees

A seed falls to the ground and dies
Yet from the dead, once again to rise
Supported from the earth in where it lies
Striving for, encouraged by the skies

We were trees

Before in the darkness, silence hung
Now colors of a new verse are sung
Branches and leaves breathing like lungs
All creation sings without tongues

We were trees
We were trees

*musical interlude x 2*

If you cut me open, you won't see the things
Or all the other trees I knew
But if you cut me open, you can count the rings
And see how many times I grew

We were oaks of righteouness
And windy pines
Lofty cedars
And the shade was not mine
But the power living in me

*musical interlude x 4*

The healing for the nations
Comes from the leaves

And we were trees

We were trees
